3 idiots review : All izz well, except the end !!

3 idiots or Munnabhai 3 ... I got confused after this 3 hours experience. Same old concept, some very repetitive. If you ask about the story, it is all about the college life of 3 idiots, not at all searching of one missing idiot. The college life was shown very well, almost at perfection. Enjoyed every moment of it. Execution was fantastic.

One should watch this movie for individual performance. Aamir, Sharman, Madhavan all acted very well and Kareena was superb. After "Jab we met" this is another movie which can be watched only for Kareena. Boman Irani now became type cast ... old angry disturbed father, running after daughter's lover. Every other small characters also gave brilliant performance, including millimeter.

Some aspects because of which it could not become a great movie. The pen and pencil issue lifted from a very old joke. The baby shows sign of life listening to "all izz well". Average acting from Boman Irani. Also it was quite predictable that the scientist will be Aamir only. Finding Aamir looked very easy, don't go with the frequency and energy of the movie.

Overall nice to watch. But could not live upto the expectation generated from the hype created by Aamir and media !! 3/5

Love Aaj Kal review : Again disappointed with Saif ...

Well before planning for the first day show, I was thinking that another "Only Saif" movie? Then I thought that at least for Deepika and obviously Neetu Kapoor Singh, let me give it a try. Also everyone is saying 4 star, 3.5 star etc etc etc ... But sorry to say that I am disappointed after watching the movie. After the 2 hrs 30 min, the feel good factor or some level of satisfaction was not there. The first half, I didn't have any clue that in which way the movie is going? The storytelling was pathetic. Like our pathetic TV serials, it just tried to store suspense for the next scene, next to next scene. Well some part I really liked. Mainly the 1965 set at Delhi and Calcutta. The silent love in the "Kal" part. The "Aaj" story for me, looked too simple, straight and obvious. Director tried to keep people guessing, now what , now?? Finally failed to show something new or different. I must say that the second half revived the movie a little bit. Liked the end (may be because my wife was sitting next to me :P).

Acting, well I never liked Saif, here also he failed to impress. He according to me just moving with his luck and may crash land any time. Deepika was good, lookwise. But again she was never natural. Biggest disappointment was Neetu singh. The whole movie I was searching for her and she appeared in the last scene for 2 seconds? Rishi Kapoor was fabulous. He lifted the movie single handed. I think Bollywood is not doing justice to him.

All in all, love aaj kal is a no-brainer. I will suggest that better you watch it on TV, but for once. You will only feel that you can't watch it next time. 2.5/5

Luck by chance : Old wine in new bottle

LBC is the same old story of a struggling person get into a love triangle and at the end try to resolve it. There are numerous examples in bollywood, ooh sorry ... in "Hindi Film Industry" like "Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman", "Rangeela", "Saudagar (Amitabh/Nutan)". But the difference between those movies and LBC is the execution. How it used the characters, also the special appearances and pass the right message to the viewer at the end. What I felt after the show about the movie was one of the very first words from Saurabh Shukla (the acting class teacher) ke "Itna bhi underperformance nahi hona chahiye". Well another surprise for me was, I thought the film will be around Farhan. But what I saw that the movie is around Konkona . Best performer awards definitely go to Rishi Kapoor. Dimple, Juhi, Farhan and Konkona; all were exellent, but failed to find Hritik in that crowd. Liked the story telling also, but definitely not a two and half hour movie. A little bit stretched in some parts.
My rating is 3 + 0.5 for Rishi Kapoor :)
